HAVING contacted my local county councillor to express my outrage at the plans by Brunner Mond to build an incinerator at Lostock, I was told that the decision would be made by central government and not at local level.

He also suggested that, as there was not much in his postbox regarding this matter, perhaps this was not at the forefront of people’s concerns.

Well, we have CHAIN, (an anti-incinerator group) and SID, (an anti-incinerator group), with a membership totalling thousands and thousands and thousands, all fighting incinerator plans in Cheshire.

Are our councillors so removed from ordinary life that they do not know what is going on under their very noses?

Have they no concern for the Cheshire of the future?

We will just be one massive dumping ground for everyone else’s rubbish.

I was under the impression that each county was responsible for the disposal of its own waste, so why have we got the potential burning capacity for the rubbish from the whole of the north west? As Vale Royal, we excelled at recycling.

As CWAC, we will be a county of incineration and toxic waste.

I would suggest that our political representatives could be likened to teachers, watching pupils being bullied but not doing anything about it until somebody brought it to their attention.

Cheshire councillors should step up to the mark and do what is right – stand up for Cheshire and the people whose quality of life they are allowing to be destroyed.

I would like to make one final point.

To link green with a power plant as a way of getting local people on board, is an insult to their intelligence!.
