THE comments made by Clr Herbert Manley regarding the defunct Northwich Vision, Guardian, October 21, reminded me of the famous Monty Python dead parrot sketch.
To remind you, the sketch was about a man who returns a Norwegian blue parrot to a pet shop and complains it is dead.
The shop owner tells him that it is only resting. Whenever the owner repeats it is dead, deceased, no more, he is told it will revive, just like the Northwich Vision.
The reason that Clrs Manley, Musgrave and the rest will not admit it is dead is because alongside others they have made a career out of this gravy train.
I remember going to one of the first meetings at the Memorial Hall, and Keith Musgrave was spouting on about bowling alleys, multiplex cinemas, café culture etc.
Someone asked what the proposed timescale was for the start and finish of the vision, to which he replied they had no idea, it was just a vision, and that was before any recession.
Does the title of this new council not give people an idea for the future – “Cheshire West and Chester?”
Chester is separate because it is the jewel in the crown, and the main resources will be targeting there and Northwich and other towns will be thrown the breadcrumbs.
And as for the Vision Mark Two, £250,000 to clean and improve Northwich, Mike Hall MP is spot on when he says ‘shouldn’t they be doing that anyway’?
