I WOULD respond to your article in Guardian of October 7 on car parking charges as follows: A working group of which I am a member has been established by Cheshire West and Chester Council to review current car parking policies and is not due to report until March 2010.

One of the first issues for this group to consider was the document ‘Civil Parking, Enforcement, Guidance for Issuing, Processing and Cancelling Penalty Charge Notices’ which has now been out for consultation.

The responses of the consultation are now under consideration and will inform future policy, and a number of responses from the Vale Royal area are in favour of introducing enforcement and adopting a fair and consistent approach across the whole of the CWAC area.

CWAC is seeking to drive a strong local agenda and as such will develop policy in all aspects of its services that are tailored to local needs and priorities through its new model for area working.

The issue of car parking charges has not yet been considered and in light of its strong commitment to local solutions, the introduction of a single approach across the whole of Cheshire West and Chester is not practical and will not reflect the local circumstance.
