IS it only me? In a recent issue of the Guardian (October 7) there was more than half a page on the issue of parking charges being imposed by Cheshire East Council.
And like many people in Middlewich I’m against them and was amused by the headline that even ‘council staff rebel against fees’.
However, is it only me who sees an irony in Clr Edwards’ desire to save us poor Council Tax payers £3,000? This is what it would cost council staff to use the Civic Way car park over a year and ‘would come out of residents Council Tax’. Why?
Why are council staff members able to reclaim parking charges when Tesco employees or other workers can’t claim it back?
But for me the greatest irony is the picture of Clr Edwards on Page 9, surrounded by more than £50,000 of potential savings. In the current economic climate, when Council Tax payers and income tax payers alike face increasing taxes over the coming years why does Middlewich need a heritage development officer and a town centre events manager?
I can hear indignant replies about what these positions bring to Middlewich, but I haven’t seen a reduction in my Council Tax due to the overflowing coffers of Middlewich Town Council.
