I COULDN’T agree more with Abi Jones (Opinion, January 16); we’ll party until dawn on January 31 and February 1, with fireworks and lots of noise, whether or not Big Ben bongs, to celebrate what has been long overdue: our release from the tyranny of the EU with its diktats that we have hardly had a say in.
It is surely curious that many think we should have stayed in to have our say at the table, but the reality is that as the EU has 28 members, we have had a say equivalent to less than four per cent of Europe. In other words, what we have said has been able to be brushed aside by the other 27 as of no consequence.
Now we are to be free at last from this tyranny. I recall the words of Martin Luther King, who in his famous appeal for equality in America, said: “Free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty, we are free at last.” Oh yes, I do indeed thank God Almighty we are soon to be free at last.
