IN HIS call for the reinstatement of Cheshire County Council Cllr Michael Jones needs to expand on his claim.
Is he requesting Cheshire West and Cheshire East councils to literally be merged so that all decision making for Cheshire is centralised in Chester, or for the reinstatement of the two-tier system we had prior to council reorganisation?
I find it surprising someone who put blame on Knutsford’s poorly maintained roads on years of neglect by Cheshire County Council thinks that a single council is the way forward.
I’m sure he’ll also be aware that Cheshire West council recently attempted a backroom merger with Wirral council but the attempt failed at the cost of £787,000 to taxpayers.
How much would a successful or unsuccessful merger between Cheshire West and Cheshire East councils cost and is Michael Jones allowing for that in his claim council tax will be cut?
While the re-organisation of Cheshire councils wasn’t popular, I’m not sure Knutsford has got a good deal out of either the present or previous administrations.
Maybe what’s required is for all council meetings to be held in the evenings, alternating between every town in the council area with a requirement for all councillors to attend using only public transport to get to and from the meeting?
They’ll soon find out which towns have neglected transport infrastructure!
