Home Bargains’ Car Park in Middlewich has been the ‘drop off spot’ for Parents for many years.

It is a short walk from Middlewich’s main schools: Middlewich High School, Middlewich Primary School and St Mary’s Catholic Primary School.

Since Middlewich is a small town, traffic easily builds up on school mornings.

This is a big pain for parents trying to take their kids to school and then go to work.

Throughout the past few months, there have been whispers of parking fines for this busy drop-off zone.

Recently, this fear has come true.

On Thursday the 24th of October, signs were put up highlighting these prices.

These signs were quickly covered up by the end of the day with black, industrial bin bags.

Were the signs a mistake, or are the council just scared of the public’s opinion?

Eventually, it was revealed that the first 2 hours of using the car park are free.

I spoke to Nikki Bacon, a student from Middlewich High School and she said:

“With these changes to our car parks, local businesses will lose a large amount of revenue.

“Our high street will dwindle, leaving our town with nothing but big businesses.

“Some people may struggle to even get to work, as some may not be able to afford the charges.”

Not only may this affect the school run and the journey to work, it will also, undoubtedly, cause an uprising in traffic in the already congested town of Middlewich.
