The ‘Middlewich Household Waste Recycling Centre’ on Croxton Lane was temporarily closed in August of this year.

What happened?

At 5pm on Friday the 4th of August 2024, it was reported that the Middlewich Tip was to be temporarily closed ahead of a review of household waste recycling centers.

This basically means that they are assessing the Middlewich Tip along with a few others around Cheshire East.

The reason for the assessments is the Cheshire East Council’s recent financial issues - they cannot afford to keep the Tip running.

What do the residents think?

I spoke to Stacey Cohen, a long time Middlewich resident, and she voiced her frustrations:

“Now that the only tip available for us to use has been closed, the residents are having to travel to Alsager.

“It is inevitable that fly tipping, which is already a concern, is going to be greatly increased.”

Where can you go instead?

Alsager Tip is a 20 minute drive from Middlewich.

Not only can the drive be a pain, but you have to sign up to the site as well.

In order to use Alsager Tip, you have to register using your details and book a time slot.

Bear in mind, spaces are very limited due to how busy the center is.

So what does this mean for Middlewich?

Well, this frustrating detour that ‘bin-goers’ will need to face is almost certainly going to cause an uprise in fly-tipping.

With nowhere to easily dispose of rubbish, people are even more likely to dump it in the streets.

This disturbs nature, causes a pain for the council and makes Middlewich look extremely unsightly.
