THAT’S more like it from Witton Albion.

Ben Harrison’s side overhauled Congleton Town 5-2 at the U Lock It Stadium, a few days after ripping into his side for the woeful midweek display against Runcorn Linnets.

Reece Daly bagged a hat-trick, including two goals from the penalty spot, as Witton earned their first Northern Premier League West victory since August 26 and ended a run of six games without a win.

But there was a nervous period in the second half when Witton’s 3-0 interval lead had been cut to one goal, before Daly’s second penalty put the red and white stripes back on track.

Witton, who included new arrival Isaac Graham for his debut after the 25-year-old former 1874 Northwich, Altrincham, Curzon Ashton and Trafford midfielder signed from Newcastle Town 24 hours earlier, went ahead fortuitously in the 17th minute from a Darren Chadwick own goal.

The Daly put Albion in command with two goals in five minutes, the first of which was from the spot, and it was a positive changing room at the break.

However, four minutes into the new half Max McCarthy pulled a goal back for the visitors and it was game on again in the 65th minute when Peter Williams made it 3-2.

Daly’s 74th-minute penalty restored the two-goal advantage and substitute James Hooper topped things off with the fifth five minutes into added time.

Meanwhile, Winsford United produced a statement win in the FA Vase.

They defeated higher-division AFC Liverpool 4-0 at Barton Stadium to reach the second round for the first time in 11 years.

Blues hit the front in the 43rd minute through Leo Tanswell, with their second-half strikes coming from Ollie Pope (61), Jack Woolley (85) and Blake Robinson (90).

Jacob Kirwan kept his 11th cleansheet of the season so far.

A much-changed 1874 Northwich side returned to winning ways 1-0 at home to Whitchurch Alport.

Two of their returning players conjured up the goal that made all the difference, allowing 1874 to climb to third in the Midland League Premier Division.

When Josh Oultram’s 60th-minute shot was saved by the visiting keeper leading scorer Joel Jones was on hand to stab home the second opportunity.

Manager Chris Herbert also welcome back to the side Chris McCann, captain Matty Fenton and fellow defender Ellis Farrar, while Matt Woolley remained an absentee as 1874 achieved their first win in five games and their first league victory since September 10.

Also in the Midland League, Northwich Victoria picked up a hard-earned point at second-placed Brocton with a 1-1 draw.

Matt Barnes made two changes to the side which drew at home with Studley last week as Connor Russo started at full-back and Dylan Switters in midfield.

The Trickies went ahead through a Marcus Perry penalty in the 34th minute but the Badgers sealed a share of the spoils through Jake Thomas’ strike in the 68th minute.

Brocton hit the crossbar twice in six minutes in the first half.
