BEN Harrison has strongly criticised the attitude of his Witton Albion team and said something must change after Tuesday night’s woeful exit from the Cheshire Senior Cup at the hands of Runcorn Linnets.
Albion crashed out 3-0 against a side they beat 4-0 in their last league win in August and it was after going 1-0 down at the U Lock It Stadium in the 32nd minute that Harrison felt his players became out-fought.
“It’s just not good enough and we’re not going to accept it,” said Harrison.
“I am disgusted that a team that we put out have put in a performance like that for Witton Albion because I can’t remember myself playing in a team where we rolled over. ‘Oh, we’ve conceded one goal now, we’ll just crumble – absolutely apple crumbled, and it’s a big eye-opener for us.
“The games that we’ve lost this season, apart from the Kidsgrove one, there’s been nothing between the sides, we’ve been in them. And it’s been the odd bit of luck or us being a bit naïve at times and not being clinical.
“But that wasn’t. That was about attitude. Fair play to Runcorn, they played well but they weren’t better than us, we just crumbled, we had no fight in us and we didn’t work hard.
“That comes from within, you have that inside you. It's just the league (left for us) now and the concern for Saturday is we’ve not shown any sort of mentality at all, we’ve just shown how weak we are.
“I am a positive person, but I can’t be positive about that. Maybe Harry Woods coming on, a 16-year-old lad who has done well in the academy and it’s great to see him come on after he’s trained with us. That’s the only positive I can think of. And if I’m struggling to find a positive then things need to change.”
Albion, who had Owen Cushion sent off in the 69th minute shortly after conceding the third goal, host Congleton Town in Northern Premier League West on Saturday, kick-off 3pm, and then visit Newcastle Town on Tuesday, 7.45pm.
1874 Northwich fell to a 3-2 home defeat to Romulus in the Midland League Premier Division on Tuesday.
They led 1-0 through a debut goal from Salford loanee striker Harry Showman in the 34th minute.
But they conceded three goals in 11 minutes in the second half before Scott McGowan pulled a goal back in the 76th minute.
1874 were without defenders Matty Fenton and Ellis Farrar, although they did welcome the return of Mark Jones and Richard Taiwo at the back.
Fenton, Farrar, midfielders Matt Woolley and Chris McCann, plus front pair Joel Jones and Josh Oultram will be available again when 1874 host Whitchurch Alport on Saturday, 3pm, ahead of entertaining Runcorn Town in the Cheshire Senior Cup first round on Tuesday, 7.45pm.
Northwich Victoria visit Brocton in the Midland League Premier Division on Saturday, 3pm, and then travel to Cheadle Town in the first round of the Cheshire Senior Cup next Wednesday, 7.45pm.
Meanwhile, Winsford United entertain AFC Liverpool in the FA Vase first round on Saturday, 3pm, and then go to Stockport Town in the Cheshire Senior Cup first round on Monday, 7.45pm.
Barnton go to Sandbach United on Tuesday in the Cheshire Senior Cup, 7.45pm.
