1874 Northwich have pulled off an FA Cup upset.

They defeated higher-league opponents Stocksbridge Park Steels 3-2 at Townfield to progress to the second qualifying round.

Greens came back from a goal down, even overcoming the setback of losing centre half Tom Morris to injury in the 24th minute.

Striker Joel Jones’ 56th-minute opportunistic goal proved to be the winner in the end.

Jack Haslam put the Northern Premier League East side in front after 10 minutes.

Chris Herbert’s side responded well and a penalty was awarded when Jack McKean was brought down in the box four minutes later.

Scott McGowan made no mistake with the spot kick to level matters.

McKean was also influential in putting 1874 ahead.

It was his through ball that allowed Liam Fitzpatrick to hit the mark from a tight angle in the 38th minute.

Greens fans were in dreamland when Joel Jones robbed the ball off a defender and found the net with a low shot towards the far post.

Stocksbridge were not giving up though and halved the deficit through Haslam’s second goal in the 68th minute.

1874 were hanging on at the end and Herbert threw on 46-year-old first-team coach Mark Reed for the second time this season for the final five minutes to help 74 get over the line.
