WITTON Albion and 1874 Northwich will be aiming to progress in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Albion host City of Liverpool, the side they beat at home 2-1 in the opening game of the Northern Premier League Premier Division season earlier this month.

They go into the contest on the back of two bank holiday wins in which they scored seven goals and kept clean sheets to move up to third on the ladder.

The Purps are currently 13 places behind them but interim Witton boss Ben Harrison knows it will be a test.

“It’s a massive game, it’s the FA Cup,” said Harrison who called for the fans to maintain the noisy backing that he feels has been giving his players a lift in their performances.

“Get down again, support the lads and let’s make it a day to remember.”

Midland League side 1874, buoyed by a 4-1 win at town rivals Northwich Victoria on Monday, face a different challenge as they welcome Stocksbridge Park Steels to Townfield.

“It’s going to be a tough game,” said manager Chris Herbert.

“They’re a very good side and a league above us so we’re going in as underdogs for once – everyone seems to want our throat at the moment so it’ll be nice to go in as underdogs, see what we can do and if we can cause an upset.”

Vics return to Midland League action away to Highgate United in Solihull.

Manager Matt Barnes will be looking for a response after a disappointing weekend that also saw them bow out of the FA Vase at AFC Liverpool 3-1.

“Again I find myself looking at individual errors becoming a bit of a trait for us and I also find myself asking questions of some of the characters that we’ve got in our dressing room,” he said.

“It’s something I need to look at with Chris (Broad, assistant manager) and Mark (Byrne, first-team coach) and see what we get out of the lads and I think we need to pick ourselves up.

“We have to understand we’ve let the club down today and go again.”

Also on Saturday, Winsford United host Market Drayton Town while Barnton visit Stafford Town – both in North West Counties Football League First Division South.

On Tuesday, 1874 host Stone Old Alleyians while Vics go to AFC Wulfrunians in Midland League fixtures.
