NORTHWICH Victoria will try to overturn Simon Grand’s caution – his fifth of the season – in yesterday’s FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round win over FC United of Manchester.
Manager Andy Preece will ask referee David Coote to reconsider his decision to book Vics’ skipper for a foul he says was committed by defensive partner Mat Bailey.
Otherwise Grand will miss Saturday’s trip to Stafford Rangers through suspension.
“We think the referee was mistaken,” he said.
“It’s something we will try to sort out because Mat [Bailey] made the foul and their player’s momentum meant he fell into Simon Grand.
“The referee did tell us to send in the video to the FA and hopefully they will overturn the decision. Fingers crossed we can sort it out.”
The Guardian understands that the game’s governing body does not normally permit video evidence for FA Cup qualifiers.
Instead, Coote will have to admit he made an error.
There is no such debate surrounding a yellow card given to top scorer Mark Danks for his foul on Rebels keeper Sam Ashton.
It is his fifth of the season too, so he definitely sits out the weekend trip to Marston Road.
