MARK Danks hopes to match a predecessors’ history-making feat and win the FA Cup’s E.ON Player of the Round prize for the second time in the same season.
The 25-year-old, who became the first Northwich Victoria player to win the award in four years last time out, now has his sights set on Paul Brayson’s record.
The Geordie striker became the first player to top the fan’s poll twice in the same campaign back in November 2005.
Danks, with help from supporters, can make history repeat itself.
His stunning hat-trick in Vics’ 4-1 thrashing of UniBond League minnows Chorley last time out earned him a nomination for the third qualifying round’s star performer from Daily Star journalist Howard Wheatcroft.
“Mark Danks’ prolific form continues,” he said.
“Voted as Player of the Round for his five-goals rout against Bardon Hill in the last round, he showed no signs of easing up with another superb goalscoring display.”
Craig Henney (Aylesbury), Ben Highmore (Chippenham Town), Richard Knight (Oxford City) and Adam Webster (Hinckley United) have also been nominated.
Supporters can pick their favourite by voting on the Football Association’s official website (link below).
Kingstonian striker Bobby Traynor was the winner in the first qualifying round following his hat-trick against Bognor Regis Town.
SUPPORTERS have until midday tomorrow, Tuesday, October 20, to vote for their favourite. The winner will receive a commemorative trophy and two VIP tickets to the FA Cup final in May.
