MID-CHESHIRE Bowling Association celebrated its champion bowlers at Friday’s annual prize night.

The winners of their league and cup competitions gathered at Weaverham’s Owley Wood Club to pick up their silverware, with Rudheath Private and Wharton Cons heading home laden with trophies.

The Winsford giants, crowned Section One champions for the second successive season, enjoyed a clean sweep of the major individual titles.

Glynn Cookson collected his tenth Guardian Cup this summer, while Thomas Vickers proved the best of the rest in the Roberts Bakery Cup final.

Graham Davies’ victory in the Cowley Cup was his first major individual success in an association competition.

Father and son tandem Alan and Thomas Vickers collected the Pogson Pairs trophy to complete a remarkable campaign for the men from the Tin Mission.

Kelsall’s John Spruce picked up the Joe Robinson Trophy for veterans, while Barry Ellis (Frodsham Red Lion) won the Challenge Shield for bowlers playing in Section Three and below.

Castle Private were grateful to rising star Matt Hamman for making sure their names was on at least one trophy after he scooped the Stan Frith Junior Merit award.

The major team titles were each taken by underdogs.

Slow & Easy A beat Section One favourites Frodsham Red Lion to take the Littler Cup crown, while Rudheath Private B won their first collective trophy under their new name in the Whitby Cup.

Beech Tree completed the set, winning the Sefton Shield for the competition’s best kept green.
