STUDENTS at Winsford’s Koshido-Ryu Karate Club have enjoyed yet more success on the international stage.
Between the four members that travelled to Poland for the WUKF European Championships, they came away with eight medals, with four of them being golds.
Three of those gold medals were won by Emily Pollitt in the Kumite, Kata and Team Kumite categories, while her stepdaughter Katie and husband Keith were also competing in Warsaw.
St Nicholas’ Sixth Form pupil Katie won three bronzes in Kata, Team Kumite and Team Kumite Rotation and while her father Keith did not come away with any medals this time, he fought extremely well and reached the quarter-finals in the Individual Kumite.
The other two medals were won by 14-year-old Winsford Academy pupil Matthew Jackson – a gold in the Team Kumite Rotation and silver in the Team Kumite.
Upon his return from Poland, Jackson and Koshido-Ryu clubmate Isla Simpson were in Dokan League action in South Shields.
He came away with two bronze medals in Individual and Team Kumite while seven-year-old Isla was a silver medalist in Juruken (shadow sparring) and Team Kumite as well as picking up Individual Kata bronze.
The Pollitts were on their travels again after the European Championships, heading to Malta for the Mediterranean Grand Prix.
Emily returned with two gold medals (Kata 18+ and Kata 40-46) and two silvers (Kumite 36-40 and Kumite 41+) while husband Keith won a medal of each colour – gold in the 36-40 Individual Kumite, silver in the 41-45 Individual Kumite and bronze in Kata 46+.
Katy brought home two Kata silver medals in the 18-20 and 18+ age groups.
