WINNINGTON Park secured their first league win of the season at Eccles.

Their 34-29 success sees them climb off the foot of the Regional 2 North West table.

Park, who host second-placed Bowdon on Saturday, delivered another much-improved performance showing the hard work in training over the past few weeks is paying off.

It was a tough and physical affair with Park producing some great rugby both in attack and defence.

Park went ahead in the fifth minute when Chris Twigg picked up a loose pass, stepped inside and passed to winger Jack O’Neill who scored in the corner.

Eccles were back on level terms three minutes later when they cashed in on three kick charge downs to cross for an unconverted try.

On 18 minutes Dan Williams broke and offloaded to the supporting Jack O’Neill who drew a defender to send Jack Williams over.

Both sides added successful penalty kicks before Park got over the whitewash again through a driving maul, with hooker Freddie Kenyon getting the touchdown converted by Cameron Flanagan, who further extended the lead to 23-8 with a penalty.

But with only minutes left on the clock Eccles won a lineout and set up an attack from which they narrowed the gap with a converted try.

Eccles was first to score in the second half with another try, getting to within a point of Park.

Flanagan slotted over two penalties to establish a seven-point lead.

Park dug in deep and on 57 minutes got an opportunity following a scrum for Eccles in their 22 which the visitors disrupted through great work from Jack Williams and after securing the ball Will Du Randt powered over in the corner for 34-22.

The game was still on a knife edge with Eccles still looking dangerous in loose open play, but Park worked hard in defence.

With minutes on the clock, Eccles got a breakthrough from a quick tap which paved the way for their fourth bonus try.
