A NEW home of golf in Cheshire has been created for men and women – and Sandiway Golf Club member Morgan de Vos will be playing a leading role.

Cheshire Men (Cheshire Union of Golf Clubs) and Cheshire Ladies (Cheshire County Ladies Golf Association) have been working together for several months on a plan for unification, which is approved and supported by England Golf.

At a recent extraordinary general meeting the CCLGA Ltd and the CUGC Ltd voted to merge and create Cheshire Golf Limited to become the home of golf in Cheshire for all.

De Vos, 32, who had been a CUGC Ltd director since February as well as head of their coaching, now has the role of director of golf development.

Cheshire becomes the third merged county in The Northern Counties Golf Union behind Isle of Man and Lancashire, and the 10th in England.

The chair of the board of directors is Cleveland McCurdy from Ringway Golf Club.

“Our aims are to promote and grow the game of golf in our county in a safe and friendly environment, welcoming everyone irrespective of age, gender and ethnicity,” he said.

“And to represent and support golf clubs in introducing and providing a broad range of competitive golf for members of all ability levels.

“Also to reach out to all golf clubs to understand what they require from Cheshire Golf Ltd and how best to serve their needs and to create better two-way communication between us.

“I, together with my board, are looking forward to this new chapter.”
