IT has been another busy season for Middlewich Cricket Club’s junior section.
There was success aplenty throughout the age groups – whether that was through trophies won or simply recruiting more youngsters to play the game – but one team in particular stood out.
The club’s under 11s swept all before them to complete an unprecedented perfect season, winning all 17 of the matches they played.
That phenomenal run allowed them to record a league and cup double in the South Cheshire Junior League – the first time this has been achieved.
The under 13s also had a promising season by finishing runners-up in both the South Cheshire and Cheshire County leagues while across the club, more than 100 junior matches were played at all age groups from under 9s right through to under 19s.
With numbers attending the club’s ECB All-Stars and Dynamos programmes for the youngest players also rising for the third year in a row, junior co-ordinator Richard Clorley is delighted with how things have gone in 2024.
“The development of our juniors has been staggering and this, for me, can be attributed to the amount of opportunities our club can provide through practice and matches,” he said.
“We can proudly say we had a handful of county representatives amongst our juniors and two of our under 13s players made their senior debuts for the club.
“It has been an incredibly busy, successful and rewarding season.”
The campaign was rounded off by a junior presentation night on September 6, which had 160 people in attendance.
