WINSFORD United had a night to remember at Barnton's expense.

Blues came out on top 7-0 in last night's derby at Townfield.

It was a win that took Winsford to second place in the North West Counties League First Division South.

They are only two points adrift of Alsager Town, the only side to have beaten Blues so far this season.

Thanks to the seven goals and clean sheet against The Villagers, Winsford are now the top scorers in the division by some way.

Jack Woolley was the only player to hit the mark more than once.

After turning around 2-0 in front, Woolley bagged the first two goals of the second half.

His second from the penalty spot in the 78th minute was the first of four goals in a 13-minute spell, with the others being netted by Kallum Boyle (81mins), Blake Robinson (89mins) and Jacob Stretch (90+1mins).

They were first goals of the season for Boyle and Stretch, while Blues' first-half strikes came from former Alsager Town centre half Liam Kettle (5mins) on his debut and Ollie Pope (21mins).

Young goalkeeper Zane Wegehaupt enjoyed his clean sheet, which was the fourth in a row for Winsford whose attentions turn to hosting higher-league REMYCA united in the first qualifying round of the FA Vase on Saturday.

Barnton will attempt to dust themselves down for their Vase trip to Nottingham to face Bottesford.

Danny Moss apologised to Barnton fans via his X account for his team's performance.
