IT was a tough night at Rudheath A for Frodsham Red Lion in the Mid Cheshire Crown Green Bowling League Premier Division.

The visitors came away with only three winners as Rudheath won the game 183-159, but ultimately both teams would have hoped to score a few more points.

Comberbach A had a great night at home, dropping only one point in their home game against Alsager.

The 209-117 keeps Comberbach in sixth place and with results like this they have a chance to move up a couple of places before the end of the season.

Castle sports A only had one loser in their game against Middlewich Community BC.

The final score of 205-104 keeps them top of the table and extends their lead by five points.

Wharton Cons A had a great win at Owley wood A. They ended the night with eight winners in a 200-156 triumph.

Crewe Post Office delivered another home win, this time against Castle Sports B.

The Crewe team ended the night with eight winners in a 195-123 victory, moving a little closer to Frodsham in third spot.

Kingswood stayed bottom pf the Premier after losing 186-160 at Helsby.

In Section One, Shavington extended their lead by beating Frodsham Red Lion B at home 198-126. Shavington were aided by the defeat of the two teams below them.

Barnton Cricket Club A took over top spot in Section Two when they inflicted upon Victoria their first league defeat of the season.

The score of 165-152 would have left both teams hoping for a few more points.

Victoria do have a game in hand over the leaders.

In Section Three, Middlewich RBL and Shavington B are fighting to win the title but with a good run any of the four teams below them could easily catch them.

Mid Cheshire Merit D&D Cup The first round of the Mid Cheshire Merit D&D cup is played today on four greens - Winnington Park 1, Wharton Cons, Barnton CC and Winsford Cons, where last year’s champion Glynn Cookson will start his defence.

Meanwhile, in the BCGBA Dorothy Pierce Memorial Pairs, on Saturday, Mid Cheshire’s Nicola Boulton and Sue Worral made their way through three rounds before falling 21-18 to Belinda Lloyd and Linda Williams from Wales.

Tamsin Birkett and Alisha Marshall got through their first game but were beaten 21-20 in the last 16.

In the league action, Red Lion Ladies extended both their lead at the top of Division One and their unbeaten run.

Castle Ladies made the tough trip to Frodsham and came away with a winner but losing the match 167-109.

Castle did equal the highest score that teams have scored at Frodsham and it is they, along with Winnington and Barnton A, who are fighting it out for second spot, with only 51 points separating second and fourth.

In Section Two, 24 points now separate the top three teams - first place Bostock Ladies, second Barnton B, third Rudheath SSC - but a number of clubs could be in contention with a good run in the second half of the season.
