JACK Woolley’s first goal in a Blues shirt secured a first league win of the new season for Winsford United at Ashville FC on Tuesday night.
Woolley, signed from Alsager earlier this month but has had previous spells with 1874 Northwich and Barnton, netted with a penalty effort in the 83rd minute to secure a 1-0 victory in Wallasey.
Winsford had the better of the chances in the North West Counties First Division South affair with Ollie Pope having the best of them.
And it was the ex-Alsager and Whitchurch frontman who was fouled in the box to give Woolley his opportunity from the spot.
Earlier in the second half, Pope put the ball in the back of the net himself but the assistant referee raised his flag for offside.
Blues will return to Wirral on Saturday to face a Cammell Laird 1907 side who have won their opening two matches.
Then on Tuesday they will seek their first home win of the new term against Stockport Georgians, kick-off 7.45pm.
Neighbours Barnton, in the same division, go to early pacesetters Cheadle Heath Nomads on Saturday and then host second-placed Alsager next Wednesday, kick-off 7.45pm.
