WINSFORD United have taken a further five players from last season’s Alsager Town squad.
This takes the total to 13 brought in by Blues joint managers Dean Jones and Dom Johnson, who are preparing for their maiden campaign in charge after leaving North West Counties League First Division South rivals Alsager.
Last week the Guardian reported eight recruits from the Bullets, where ex-Winsford United boss Lee Duckworth is now joint manager.
Alsager manager’s player of the season for 2023/24 Jordan Cobley; forward Ollie Pope, who has also had time with Whitchurch; former Lostock Gralam and FC St Helens utility Jacob Stretch; forward Tom Stanton, centre-half Louis Johnson, former Barnton goalkeeper Jacob Kirwan and midfielder Sean Tierney, who are all coming back for another spell with their hometown club; and ex-Eccleshall player Blake Robinson had been announced.
Since then, five more have been confirmed - towering ex-Ashton Athletic defender Elliott Coleman; forward Jack Woolley who bagged 20 goals for Alsager last season and has history with Barnton, 1874 Northwich and Warrington Rylands; Lukas Jacobsen-Murphy who returns to the Barton Stadium and has also featured for Lostock Gralam and Broadheath Central; South Korean wing back Same Son, who previously represented Manchester Gregorians; defender Stef Sorensen who has caught the eye in pre-season games.
This should make things very interesting when Winsford host Alsager Town in the opening game of the new league campaign on Saturday, July 27.
And Winsford have also named some retained players from last term – former Stockport Town midfielder Leo Tanswell and club stalwart Danny Kerr.
Winsford tricky wide man Liam Collins is also making his Blues comeback.
Woolley scored the only goal as Winsford defeated their tenants Northwich Victoria 1-0 in Saturday’s pre-season friendly, while they were defeated 4-2 at home on Tuesday by last season’s champions Brocton.
Blues return to action at home to Lostock Gralam in their final friendly on Friday, kick-off 7.45pm.
