TEEN boxer Bella Dempsey secured an impressive win at the Manchester Box Cup.

The Superbox Northwich competitor, a student at County High School, stopped a multi title-winning Irish opponent in the final of their category at Leigh Leisure Centre.

Dempsey, 15, proved to be too strong on the day for Armagh Down Development Squad fighter Sionnain McCoy.

She achieved a first-round stoppage against the St John Bosco Boxing Club Newry member, who has been crowned Mid Ulster, Belfast Box Cup, Ulster Nine Counties, Louth, and Ulster Championship winner.

Steve Bunby, who leads the Superbox club alongside Thomas Bunby, said: “Her opponent was strong, but Bella’s lightning-fast hands overwhelmed her."

Dempsey is no stranger to winning titles either, as she triumphed in the Midlands Box Cup, Riviera Box Cup and the Merseyside and Cheshire Regional Development Championships last year before taking bronze in the nationals.

Clubmate Thomas Evans, 11, a regional final winner this year who was a Manchester Box Cup winner in 2023, again performed well in Leigh.

He showed great footwork before losing a split decision in his semi-final against Kylan Rimmer.

Northwich Superbox have moved into their new home at Rudheath Academy, having previously been based at Supergym Combat Sports Academy on Winnington Hall Industrial Estate.

They will be staging an open day at Rudheath Academy from noon on Saturday, September 7, to showcase what they have to offer the community.

As part of this event, former New Era Boxing Club amateur and now professional Kyle Davies will be demonstrating his skills.

Refreshments will be available and anybody wanting further information can contact the club via superbox.org.uk
