STOCK car racer Kyle Taylor has achieved back-to-back wins on his return from a British Championships crash.
Firstly, a long trip to Norfolk proved worthwhile for the 33-year-old Northwich native, who has lived in Middlewich for the past six years.
The BriSCA F2 stock car star made his mark at the King's Lynn stage by winning the meeting final.
It has been a tough season for the second-generation racer and if there ever was a driver who the phrase "wrong place at the wrong time" was coined for it was Taylor, who has suffered lots of damage at many meetings – often not through his own fault – and this was his first appearance since receiving a lot of damage and suffering concussion in the British Championships in May.
Team Taylor decided after the British that they needed something different and bought a second-hand car.
The vehicle needed a huge amount of work and Taylor and his father, Dave, literally spent each day for the previous week getting the car ready only for it to be completed in the nick of time to make the journey to Norfolk.
Following a ninth-place finish in his heat, Taylor decimated the field in the final.
He worked his way through the grid and took the lead from Downham Market's Ben Cole on the seventh lap and went on to show the rest of the field a clean set of wheels as he extended his lead every lap and had a massive near half-lap advantage when the chequered flag fell from Kings Langley's Danny McCarthy.
Taylor said "After a big effort to get the new car ready in time for Kings Lynn, it paid off with a win in the final – our first victory of 2024 – and fifth fastest lap of the night.
"There is definitely some potential to build on.
"I will be getting the car wrapped and sign written soon if anyone would like to come on board as a sponsor, there is lots of space available – look up our facebook page BriSCA F2 136 Kyle Taylor Racing for more info."
Taylor backed that up with a visit to Sheffield's Owlerton Stadium for their annual World Championships qualifying round.
He won his qualifying heat and the meeting final.
In doing so, Taylor has very likely secured his place in a World Championships semi final at Aldershot Raceway later this year.
Aldershot is a tarmac track and will be a new track to Taylor, so he has a tarmac car in preparation that he is hoping to debut soon in anticipation of the semi finals.
