WINSFORD United have recruited a stack of Alsager Town players for the new season.
Joint managers Dean Jones and Dom Johnson, who are preparing for their maiden campaign in charge of Blues after leaving North West Counties League First Division South rivals Alsager, are aiming to ‘wake up a sleeping giant’ in their new roles.
To help them do so, they have brought in Alsager manager’s player of the season for 2023/24 Jordan Cobley; forward Ollie Pope who has also had time with Whitchurch; former Lostock Gralam and FC St Helens utility Jacob Stretch; forward Tom Stanton, centre-half Louis Johnson, former Barnton goalkeeper Jacob Kirwan and midfielder Sean Tierney, who are all coming back for another spell with their hometown club; and ex-Eccleshall player Blake Robinson.
Tierney and Robinson netted in a 2-1 win against Bollington in Winsford’s first game of pre-season.
Blues then lost 1-0 at home to Pilkington FC on Saturday but defeated FC United of Manchester 4-0, with Cobley and Pope among the marksmen.
Elsewhere, 1874 Northwich will be a hosting a ‘Meet the Manager’ and ‘Speak to the Board’ night at their home ground Townfield tonight, Thursday.
The event is scheduled to start at 7.30pm, with Chris Herbert and his management team due to arrive between 8.15pm and 8.30pm after their training session.
A club statement reads: “This is a great opportunity to ask questions and to gain an insight into the inner workings of the club.”
