JAKE Hibbert peaked at the right time to retain his Cheshire County Championship title.

And his efforts alongside those of clubmates Jon Beesley and Paul McFerran helped Warrington to the team prize at the event at Royal Liverpool Golf Club, which hosted last year’s Open Championship.

Hibbert, who is also a member of Delamere Forest Golf Club, hit a nerveless final round of 70 to overhaul the two-shot lead held by Wallasey’s Joe Sephton and take home the trophy with a final score of 290.

In doing so, he became the first player to retain the title since Cheshire golfing legend David Horsey did so back in 2006.

He will now represent Cheshire at the English County Champions tournament at Woodhall Spa in September while in the same month, he will team up with Beesley and McFerran again at the English Champion Club tournament at Stanton on the Wolds under the county banner.

The top individual score on the second day of 71 was posted by Sandiway Golf Club's Liam Gobin, who finished third in the Championship three strokes behind runner-up Ryan Owen from Wilmslow and one ahead of fourth-placed Sam Burton from Prestbury.
