WINNINGTON Park have introduced an additional senior men’s team for the forthcoming rugby union season.
Park’s successful mini and junior section continues to provide a steady stream of talent joining its adult men’s teams, with increasing player numbers allowing the club to commence a fourth team for the 2024-25 campaign.
The fourth team will join North West Halbro League Division Five and will be largely made up of players who cannot commit to playing every week but still want to play on a social basis.
It is hoped that this will keep players involved in the game for longer and see Park buck the national trend in the community game, with clubs facing a reduced number of men’s rugby teams.
Paul Dean, club chairman, said: “We are clearly doing something right.
“We have a hugely successful mini and junior rugby section which produces a steady stream of players for our men’s and women’s teams.
“We are also able to provide games for players at every level - those who wish to play at a highly competitive level in our first XV down to those who want a more social game in our fourth team.
“We have a fantastic group of coaches for all our teams, and we believe we have some of the finest facilities in the north west of England.
“We are a very friendly and inclusive club who welcome players of all abilities and experience.”
Last season the club introduced many younger players who have transitioned from their under 18s team to senior rugby.
Park are also hoping to attract a number of new players to the club.
Several new players who have moved into the area have already signed up for the coming season and more are expected when pre-season training starts on Tuesday, July 2.
Training continues every Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm until the season starts in September.
The new coaching team have been working hard over the summer to get plans in place.
Next season’s fixtures have been released and the eagerly awaited derby fixture versus Northwich is due to take place on Saturday, October 12 at Burrows Hill with the return fixture at Moss Farm on Saturday, January 11, 2025.
