BARNTON FC’S under 13s capped their season with a dramatic cup final victory on Sunday.
The team lifted the Mid-Cheshire District Cup having prevailed in a penalty shootout against Sandbach United at the Villagers’ Townfield Lane home ground, with skipper Alfie Booth scoring the winning penalty.
All five Barnton takers scored their penalties, with goalkeeper Louie Clark saving Sandbach’s fifth spot-kick after the game had finished goalless in normal time.
“To say I’m proud is an understatement,” team manager Adam Bettley said.
“Every single one of the boys put an unbelievable shift and held their nerve in a tense and tight final.
“Credit to both teams for putting on a great spectacle.”
The club’s under 16s will have the chance to bring another trophy home this weekend as they contest the Cheshire FA Cup Final for their age group.
They will take on Timperley FC’s “Barca” team at Knutsford FC on Sunday, with the match kicking off at 1.30pm.
