HARRY Kell’s reign as Cheshire Boys captain is off to the best possible start.
The Sandiway Golf Club star led a superb team effort as they won the Four Counties Junior Tournament in emphatic style, lifting the trophy for the first time since 2011.
He was joined on the Cheshire team by Sandiway clubmate Oscar Craig and Delamere Forest’s Aaron Mohun as well as five others from around the county as they dominated Lancashire, Nottinghamshire and Shropshire & Herefordshire at Formby Golf Club.
Hosts Lancashire had won 10 of the past 11 tournaments and looked a tough proposition on home territory, but Cheshire laid down an early marker by dishing out a 7-0 drubbing.
A comfortable 5-2 victory over Nottinghamshire followed that afternoon, setting up what would be a tournament decider against Shropshire & Herefordshire the following morning.
Ringway’s Cole Self got them off to a fine start with a handsome 5&4 victory and while Kell and Stockport’s Lucas Kuiper both halved their matches, Cheshire were in command of the others out on course.
Cheshire will host the 2025 tournament at Wallasey Golf Club.
Cheshire team: Harry Kell (Sandiway, captain, Lucas Kuiper (Stockport), Oscar Craig (Sandiway), Ben Buchanan (Dunham Forest), Aaron Mohun (Delamere Forest), Laurent Beech (Eaton), Cole Self (Ringway), Spencer Davies (Wallasey)
