WITTON Albion triumphed in the final of the Mid-Cheshire Senior Cup last night.

Harry Brazel’s winner allowed Jon Macken’s side to emerge victorious against neighbours Northwich Victoria at the U Lock It Stadium as they secured the trophy with a 2-1 win.

Brazel’s winner came shortly after Vics’ Will Lloyd had cancelled out Joe Duckworth’s opener, with all four goals coming in the game’s final quarter.

Here’s Peter Tonge’s full verdict on the action…

A CLOSELY fought match full of good football from both teams decided by fine margins.

Both teams had their chances in a goalless first half – Marcus Perry went close for Vics as his shot from a corner was deflected wide after nine minutes while Tom Pope put a free header over the bar from a corner for Witton a few minutes later.

Eli Fisher then teed up Will Lloyd well placed inside the area, but he couldn’t get his shot away first time and the chance went away while Joe Camozzi shanked a shot wide from the corner of the box as Vics pressed for an opener.

At the other end, Adam Reid had to dive quickly to his right to push away a stinging shot from Pope whilst his opposite number Danny Roberts did well to stop a Fisher shot just before half time.

The second half continued in the same fashion as the first – Pope headed down for Joe Duckworth but his effort was blocked for a corner while Roberts briliantly tipped over Dylan Switters’ half-volley to deny him the opener.

Witton then had their best spell as only a great last ditch-tackle from Matty Clarke denied them a near certain goal before Reid had to stop a skidding shot from distance.

However, they did take the lead in the 66th minute after a quick break down the right and Duckworth fired into the far corner of the net.

Vics weren’t disheartened and just seven minutes later, they were level as Lloyd collected the ball just outside the area and smashed the ball into the net, giving Roberts no chance.

The action wasn’t over though as Witton earned a corner in the 78th minute which was swung in, Reid looked to have collected it but the ball fell loose and was put into the net by Harry Brazel to put Witton in the lead again.

Vics pressed for equaliser but Witton remained firm and held on for the victory.
