BROTHERS were crowned champions of their age groups in the recent North of England Cyclocross Championships at Betley Farm in Crewe.
Delamere-based Tommy Bowman, 11, and his sibling Jack, nine, contested the best racers from each of the regions in bad weather conditions, with freezing temperatures leading up to the race and snowfall the day before ensuring they faced a tricky technical and snow-covered course.
Tarporley High School student Tommy led from start to finish to take the overall win and the under 12s title by nearly a minute over his nearest rival.
Jack, who was in the under 10s category, traditionally doesn’t get flying starts so had to work his way through the field.
The Delamere C of E Primary Academy pupil led in the latter part of the race and held on to take a well-earned victory.
