Winnington Park crash at Firwood Waterloo in Regional 2 North West

It was a tough and frustrating afternoon in difficult conditions against a solid team, with injuries playing a part in a disjointed Park performance.

Winnington will hope to do better when they finish the first half of the season at home to fifth-placed Burnage on Saturday.

Park, who are ninth on the ladder, trailed 20-5 at the interval, paying the price for a rising tally of errors.

Although they put some good phases of play together at the start of the second half a couple of mistakes led to them conceding two tries in four minutes and the contest was over.

Park scored a similar try in each half.

They were 15-0 behind when they went over for their first.

Park were awarded a penalty and kicked for the corner, the lineout was won cleanly, and Park set up a driving maul to power over the line with Evan Retief touching down in the 30th minute.

But at this early stage of the game, Winnington had already used up their bench due to injuries while the wet and muddy conditions were worsening and not helping.

It was in the 68th minute that Park got their second try.

From a lineout that was cleanly won, the driving maul was again successful with Frankie Davenport scoring.

A few more injuries left Park two men short and Waterloo capitalised by scoring a couple more tries.
