NORTHWICH teenager Mikey Doran is through to the quarter-finals of the National Association of Boys and Girls Clubs Boxing Championships.
The 16-year-old will be in action again this weekend, following a run of fine performances that have seen him progress in his category over the past week in what is one of the largest amateur youth championships in Europe.
Doran, from Boxing Fit Academy on Works Lane, won the Merseyside and Cheshire Championship in Bootle on Wednesday.
He defeated Kai Kennedy from FKB ABC in Prescot in the semi-finals and went on to beat James Brandreth from Halton to secure the title.
Then at the weekend he showed his talent again as he overhauled Austin Henighan from Hamer Rochdale to become North West champion.
His victory came on points, a 4-1 split decision against Henighan.
Doran, who works in the driveways and patios industry, won fairly comfortably thanks to his quick movement, quick hand speed, calculated timing and picking his shots well.
