SUMMER camps ahead of the return to school have been hailed a success.
Northwich RUFC worked with Northwich Town Council and other agencies to bring fully inclusive sports camps to Moss Farm Leisure Complex over the summer months.
The camps were free for children in receipt of pupil premium funding, and £10 per day for all other participants.
More than 60 primary school children attended the ‘Northwich Multi-Sports Camp’ and were treated to fun, engaging and competitive sports, including dodgeball, cricket, football, rugby and the occasional water fight thrown into the mix!
As well as targeting primary school children, camp leaders Sam Naylor and Aaron Collins also ran a new initiative called ‘Pitch up and Play’, aimed at secondary school children wanting to stay active over the summer period.
Northwich RUFC want to be at the forefront of the community and camps like these are a big part of that.
Naylor said: “Moss Farm is a fantastic facility for sport in the local community.
“It has been great to see so many kids enjoying a range of sports over the summer period, and the initial stages of the Moss Farm development getting under way has also created a real buzz!”
The club has been working with Northwich Town Council, Cheshire FA and Cheshire Police on a third initiative called ‘Footy and a Feed’.
It involves football games on the FA 4G pitch, followed by a free meal at the rugby club and taster sessions for kids wanting to blow off more steam on the tackle pads!
This initiative has been free for all attending and supports the town council‘s aim of using sport as a method to clamp down on anti-social behaviour in the area.
Northwich RUFC have every intention on supporting more camps in the future along with growing its thriving junior rugby section.
