NINE runners from a Barnton club completed a 50km ultra marathon in the South Downs, Hampshire.
For some members of the participating Razzer’s Runners group, the Serpent Trail was the first time they had run the distance.
But Cheryl Davies, Debbie van Berkel, Louise Robinson, Stuart Robinson, Richard van Berkel, Zoe Geaves, Chris Dymond, Rachel Trusdale Hassall and Sarah Salomon all completed the mission.
The group had been training together for the event since early this year and could often be seen running around Delamere Forest on weekend mornings to get those all-important miles in.
On the day of the race the weather was warm, making it more challenging, however all the club runners finished the race with times varying from 5hrs 59mins to 9hrs 51mins.
Conversations at the finish line of ‘I’m never doing that again’ have quickly been forgotten and many of the participants have already entered into their next challenge.
Razzer’s Runners is based at Barnton Football club and was formed more than 38 years ago by Roy ‘Razzer’ Clarke, though became official in the year 2000 when it was registered with UK Athletics.
Members run varying distances on Tuesdays and Thursdays, leaving at 6pm and 6:30pm. They also have a session on Sunday at 8.30am.
Razzer’s Runners welcomes runners of all abilities. Moreover, they have a walking group that meet at 6pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 8:30am on Sundays.
Everyone meets up for a now famous Razzer’s cup of tea and biscuits. Anyone interested in joining the club for a walk or a run can find more details on the group’s Facebook page.
