WINNINGTON Park women’s hockey team are now only one win away from being crowned champions.
A 16th victory from 16 outings in defeating Alderley Edge 3-1 at home on Saturday leaves Park 15 points clear of their nearest rivals going into the last six games.
So a success at home to seventh-placed Runcorn, a side they defeated 4-1 away back in November, on Saturday would seal the North West Women’s Division Three West title.
Park came out on top of a fiery affair with Edge with the help of two goals from the prolific Jaz Barlow.
Shandy Moloney-Pugh also got on the scoresheet.
Winnington women’s seconds also remain unbeaten this season after a 1-1 draw with table toppers Sandbach at the weekend.
For this clash, Park took on a new formation and were dominant from the off.
Their efforts were rewarded with an Eileen Miller straight strike from a short corner. Even with Park keeping control Sandbach managed to squeeze in their equaliser from a short corner.
Sonia Rushton was brilliant in goal and was declared player of the match.
Having won at Sandbach earlier in the campaign, Park are the only side to have taken four points off their title rivals so far.
