DAVE Walker was a victor in his age-group category for hosts Weaver Valley Cycling Club when their popular Oulton Park Race Series started last week.
More than 100 riders took part in the opening round on Tuesday, completing 10 laps of the Little Budworth circuit, with Walker reaching the finish first in the over 40s class.
He was part of a three-man break that maintained a gap to their rivals before triumphing ahead of Steve Casey (Liverpool Braveheart BC) after a sprint to the line.
Emily Martin continued an impressive run of results when she classified as the second fastest female during the latest Manchester and District Ladies’ Cycling Association 25-mile time trial.
The Weaver Valley member stopped the clock in 1:01.49 - a personal best – after completing a course on roads around Chelford.
Clubmates Lynsey Astles (1:07.24) and Carol Robson (1:11.46) were in action too, both ranking inside the top 10.
Neah Evans (Team HUUB), a professional track cyclist who has represented Great Britain, took first prize in 54:41.
Paul Connor was the pick of Weaver Valley’s contingent in the men’s race, timing 58:39, followed by Andy Milligan (59:02), Colin Carthy (1:02.50), Lloyd Smith (1:05.04) and Dan Robson (1:06.29).
Simon Wilson (Ribble Pro Cycling) topped the time-sheet in 50:21.
Kevan Underhill contested the Tommy Godwin Memorial Road Race, at Bearley near Stratford upon Avon, and closed a gap to an initial breakaway in the over 60s category.
He resisted a temptation to do the same when Steve Tucker (Derby Mercury) repeated the trick, instead staying with the bunch until the final straight.
The Weaver Valley man moved clear with 400m left to take second.
