A win is a win, right?
“I felt we had the better chances, while the opposition didn’t have a clear-cut opportunity.
“I thought we pushed them back in the second-half and tried to breakthrough, although the conditions were terrible and it was difficult with the wind.
“Given a choice, you’d rather play in the pouring rain.”
Will Jones strikes again
“To his credit, he kept going.
“I thought he showed great composure for the goal and it’s nice to see us start to share around the goals after James Foley and Danny McKenna scored for us last week.
“That’s encouraging.”
Shutting out another opponent
“We probably did more defending than I expected.
“Lads back there made great blocks around the edge of our box and won important headers.
“It’s true Greg [Hall] didn’t have much to do but we spent a bit too much time on the back-foot.
“I wouldn’t say we were comfortable even though we didn’t give them much to go on.”
It might have been a wider margin of victory though
“Yes, if you consider the opportunities we had.
“The one from Ossie that trickled just past the post only needed a touch, while Matty Devine went on a great run before shooting at the end.
“What about the chance that fell to Rob? How did he miss?
“I was concerned that might come back to haunt us later but the lads deserve credit for making sure we kept a clean-sheet.”
These lads just love defending don’t they?
“We talk about it often and did so again before the game.
“It’s about defending with discipline in the right areas and not giving away silly free-kicks which we have been guilty of in the past.
“I always tell them to back themselves to be the better player in one-on-one situations and I thought we did that really well today.”
It’s frustrating to see players come off injured again
“That’s one downside.
“We’ve picked up injuries again; Anthony Gardner has felt his hamstring while James Foley gritted his teeth and tried through sheer will to get to the end of the game but just couldn’t.
“They’re problems we could do without.
“It’s disruptive too; we had to tweak our formation and move people around.”
But one of your substitutes made an impact
“Tom [Owens] was nursing an injury and we tried to look after him as best we could.
“However we wanted to push on during the closing stages and that’s why we put him on.
“He made an impact because he runs into spaces that make it difficult for the opposition to pick him up.
“We pushed Ossie closer to the goal as well so we had three players in attack and pinned back their defenders.
“It stopped both full-backs from pushing forward and posing a threat to us as well.”
