OAKMERE accelerated a charge towards the Division Two title when they thrashed promotion-hopefuls Chelford by nine wickets in no time.

Matt Howard’s five-fer set the tone as the home team were skittled for 128, including the wicket of danger-man Farhan Khalid (38).

The men from Overdale Lane were ruthlessly efficient in reply, reaching 129-1 in the 13th over after Slade Mitrovich (93no off 38 balls) dismantled Chelford’s attack.

The South African helped himself to nine fours, and eight maximums, while opener Adrian Stubbs (26no) watched on.

Craig Phelan’s side, 29 points clear of second-placed Stockport Trinity, have now won 11 of their 12 league matches.

Winnington Park posted their highest score of the summer during a 134-run demolition of Stretton.

Sam Barnes (75) and Tyron Young (66) both passed 50, while captain Alec Butcher (47) almost did, as they put 258-9 on the board after deciding to bat first.

They then proceeded to knock over their hosts for 124, with Jonny Wales (3-36) taking a supporting role to James Hendry (4-44) and Young (3-1) – the Aussie needing only 11 balls to finish the job.

Middlewich could not hold out for a draw at Woodford, where they lost by 32 runs.

Their reply, after dismissing the home team for 187, had started promisingly with Matt Allen (50) and Stephen Parry (34) among the runs.

However Jack Metcalfe (5-48) wrestled back control.

Matt Ryan (4-53) had been the pick of the Middlewich bowlers, supported by Matthew Parry (2-27) and Sam Brothers (2-12), earlier in the afternoon.

Kingsley Warman’s maiden century was the highlight for Kingsley when they recorded a seventh victory since joining the top-flight.

He found the boundary 19 times on his way to an unbeaten 104, and shared in a partnership worth 178 runs with Hayden Lanza (78no), as the Crofters recovered from the blow of losing both openers to prevail by eight wickets.

Their hosts, Ashton on Mersey, had posted 214-8 earlier.

Skipper Tom Scott (60) scored a half-century, but Kingsley’s bowlers all contributed with the experienced Adrian Burden (3-57) leading the way.

There was a brace apiece too for Tom Waring (2-71) and Ben Stoddart (2-46).

Barnton brought back a dozen points from Port Sunlight following a draw in the same section.

They had the hosts in trouble too at 114-8 before skipper Wayne Greve (82no) and Martin Naylor (22no) took their side to 181 during an unbroken stand worth 67 runs.

Simon Hancock (3-27) continued where Andrew Leese (2-17) left off after sustaining an injury, while Neil Langham was denied a hat-trick by Simon Melberzs.

He was at the crease with Matt Morley (25no) to ensure Barnton’s innings didn’t collapse after coming together at 101-6.
