THE Northern Premier League confirmed on Monday that Northwich Victoria have been deducted 10 points for entering administration.
It sends Vics to the bottom of the Division One South table.
“As an insolvency event that has occurred during the playing season, the sanction is applied immediately following the expiration of a notice giving the club seven days to appeal to the FA,” read a statement.
According to a notice in the Gazette, Vics appointed Gordon Craig, from Refresh Recovery, as an administrator on December 1.
He confirmed talks had taken place with representatives from Northwich Victoria Supporters’ Association about that group taking over.
Martin Rushe, the current owner, has said his family no longer has the money to support the club.
If the fans are successful in their bid, their priority will be to find a pitch for the team to play on next season.
Last month Witton Albion announced a ground-share agreement with Vics will not continue beyond the end of the current campaign.
“The truth is they cannot afford to stay,” said Albion chairman Mark Harris.
“And the harsh realities of football finance dictate we can’t reduce the rent we currently charge to an amount they can pay.”
On the field, the team has failed to win any of their past nine league matches, and are now five points from a position of safety.
They appeared on course to end that sequence when goals from new recruit Drew Matthews and Yaw Gyimah established a 2-0 interval lead at lowly Loughborough Dynamo on Saturday.
However the hosts, themselves without a victory in their past 10 attempts, recovered after the interval to claim maximum points.
Vics are scheduled to play 1874 Northwich in a Cheshire FA Senior Cup first-round tie tonight, Tuesday, kick off 7.45pm.
They host Gresley this weekend.
