Manchester Medics 11 Winnington Park 14
WINNINGTON Park put in probably their worst performance of the season so far on Saturday, but still emerged as victors.
A brace of tries from Fraser Lindsay secured a fourth win of the season, marking the first team’s best start to a campaign since 2005.
They were pushed hard by newly-promoted opponents though.
Trailing 8-0 after succumbing to slick backs play by the home team, Park replied when Lindsay picked up a loose ball before sprinting 60 metres to the line.
Jack Williams converted.
They took the lead after punishing more sloppy play from the Medics, this time after quick-thinking by Conor Lepniewski and Joe Robins had earned a penalty.
Skipper Harry Stubbs found Fraser from the restart, leaving the visitors’ vice-captain to run again from inside his side’s own half to touch down under the sticks.
Williams repeated his earlier trick to make it 14-8, a lead reduced by a penalty before the break.
Park struggled for consistency again in the second period, but defended stoutly when put under pressure.
On one such occasion in the closing seconds, a defender pushed Medics’ winger into touch when he appeared certain to score a winning try.
