JACOB Booth claimed eighth place at the inaugural Upton Cycling Club Summer Road Race last weekend, covering 50 miles on a course near Wakefield.
The Weaver Valley Cycling Club member battled a challenging headwind for most of the nine laps, holding his own during a bunch sprint behind winner Dominic Smith (Retford & District Wheelers).
On Saturday, Dave Fearon timed 57:08 – an average speed of 26.25mph – riding a fixed gear bike at the Janus Road Club 25.
Alistair Stanway, in 59:31, and Jim Duffy – who clocked 1:00.25 – were the next Weaver Valley riders to finish.
Professional Matthew Brammeier (Synergy Baku Cycle Project) won in 52:02, three seconds too fast for Andrew Wilkinson (Port Sunlight Wheelers).
On Wednesday, Weaver Valley’s Caroline Fearon was fifth overall in the Manchester and District Ladies Cycling Association 10 at Chelford.
