The Rudheath and Witton Together Conservation Group has been busy revamping the Northwich Train Station gardens.
We’re going in for Best Community Project in the Cheshire West and Chester’s Somethin Bloomin competition, and this Thursday (July 21) the judges from Mid-Cheshire Line In Bloom competition are viewing our efforts.
Still a little bit more to do to finish it off.
The majority of comments we’ve had are very encouraging; with the odd negative about the local youths and indeed some youths from a nearby street were a little anti-social towards us on Friday. All under the watchful eye of the CCTV.
It saddens me when the young prove the moaners right. I almost will them to be ‘bigger’, to be better than their upbringing.
Still I’ve seen plenty of young people using the bin instead of the floor lately. There’s only a sad minority of unloved wastrels causing nuisance.
They crave attention, they crave a ‘buzz’ that comes from being noticed, but they’re too silly to realise they’re harming themselves in the long term.
There is a much better buzz to be had from being useful and decent.
Why is it better? Because it is deserved.
My group is in talks to do something green and creative with the young next year and hopefully give the teens places to go where they won’t be moved on and disparaged.
It's not just the young that need our help – the Dial A Ride service is under threat. This service is vital for many vulnerable people who without it will have no social life and may find shopping or visiting relatives almost impossible. I’d like to see the community taking ownership of the Dial A Ride and using it for everyone’s benefit.
None of us may like the current political and economic climate but moaning about it gets us nowhere. The future is in our hands now. And that’s not such a bad thing. I believe some things are sacred – the NHS, free education, taking care of the old, the sick and injured, the soldiers, those with disabilities and free legal representation. Everything else is actually made better when the community get involved. Some things are worth more than money – friendship, fellowship, compassion, communication and courage. Things a healthy community need in abundance. People who moan for the sake of moaning need to take a deep breath and repeat after me: I must not be a victim!
I must try harder to see the beauty and joy around me!
That’s why we’ve revamped the gardens at the train station – to put a smile on your faces on a grey Monday morning!
Enjoy.
