A MULTIPLEX cinema remains in the plans for leisure facilities at Baron’s Quay but campaigners say this does not mean the end to their hopes for the Plaza.
A community group is making headway in its bid to reopen the Grade II listed building in Witton Street as a traditional cinema.
Gillian Edwards, one of the founders of the group and also a member of the Weaver Valley Partnership, said: “If a multiplex cinema is built, it will be years down the line and the Plaza will be a niche cinema, so the two can work together and complement each other – it’s not a case of either or.”
Geoff Hope-Terry, chairman of the Weaver Valley Partnership, said: “We need a modern multi-screen cinema but there’s scope for a community cinema as well – it would be good if we could get both.”
