Rudheath and Witton Together held a successful Big Lunch BBQ at Grozone on Sunday, June 5. Over 40 residents attended, many whom had never visited Grozone before. All said they would like to come again!
This is community at work – all pulling together, sharing food, sharing stories, and gathering in fellowship. This is how society could look like if we all shared a desire to unite.
Things are indeed getting a touch harder, with the inevitable cuts starting to bite. But the British used to be good at soldiering on.
We used to muck in together to ride the storm.
We can do this again.
The local Community reps Kevin Rimmer and Colin Judkins are organising a car boot sale in order to raise money for the ornamental garden I plan for Northwich Train Station.
This is truly a partnership between CWAC’s Sally Buttifant, Northern Rails’ Chris Ingham, the Community Reps and myself.
With money raised we can buy the plants and paint needed to make Northwich Station a hot contender for Mid Cheshire line in Bloom competition.
All the community are invited to help or just to support us at the Car Boot sale. All too often when I’m litter picking at the station, people say to me not to bother as the ‘council will do that’. I think they miss the point.
It’s our station. It’s our town. These are our streets. This is our children’s inheritance. It's not just for the council to care for us, we could care for each other and ourselves. We could have a little bit of pride in our environment, in our families place in society.
I don’t mean the council should abandon us and especially not the vulnerable.
I’m advocating that we co-operate, that we co-own and co-create alongside government. I would like to see the British public with more say, with a louder voice than in the past. True, there is talk of crushing the unions again. This is not a new scenario. I totally oppose this idea. Every worker has rights and for good reason.
I don’t want to see a return of the exploitation of the past, Mr Cable.
Even unemployed, unpaid workers like me have some rights. Without them we are not the civilised country we purport to be. The past also teaches us that without basic rights, the people have a tendency to uprise!
Maybe even the British this time.
Blue Rinsers marching with Fake tans, shoulder to shoulder against the assault on our working heritage. Some of us will work for ‘nothing’, but none of us wants to work with someone’s boot on our necks!
