AN efit has been released to help track a man who tried to burgle a Winsford pensioner.
The man called at the house of an 86-year-old woman in Swanlow Lane at around 2pm on Tuesday, November 3, claiming to be from the water board.
He claimed there was an ongoing incident in the area, and that he needed access to her house to check the water supply.
Once inside, he asked her to stay in the kitchen, during which time he searched the house. Although he escaped empty handed, the victim was left in shock as a result of the incident.
A police spokesman said: “We urge residents, particularly the elderly, to be vigilant when approached by officials purporting to be working on behalf of utility companies, or indeed anyone who claims to need access to your property.
“Genuine callers will produce ID that should be verified by telephoning the company the official purports to be from. Never allow anyone access to your home without checking they are genuine callers. Further advice can be sought by calling your local Neighbourhood Policing Team on 0845 458 0000.”
Police would like to hear from anyone who may have been approached by someone resembling the efit.
Information can be left with DC Chris Morris at Winsford CID on 0845 458 0000 or anonymously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
