A YOUTH club in Crewe is set to be re-opened as a youth cafe with music and activities.
A new multi team partnership in Crewe headed by Connexions, will be opening the Mirion Street club for 13 to 19 year olds on Friday November 13.
The club which is known as the Crewe and District Youth Club and was last open several years ago, will open from 6.30pm to 9pm each Friday.
Entry will be free and the idea is for the youngsters who attend to decide the club's future activities and opening times through a young persons committee.
Lynn Davies, area manager for Connexions, said: "We were looking to extend activities for young people on a Friday night in the Crewe area and approached the Youth Club and committee.
"It was agreed that we could hire the building each Friday but due to its size and the breadth of activities that would be required we invited other organisations to become involved in the project."
The groups involved include Wulvern Housing, Manchester Housing, police, fire service, community wardens, Excellence in Crewe, St Michael's Church and Cheshire East Neighbourhood Action.
Lynn added: "Councillors Terry Beard, Andrew Martin and Chris Thorley from Cheshire East, long with the Mirion Street Committee and their chairman Ray Palin were all keen to offer their support.”
A consultation took place at Sir William Stanier School and across the community to find out what activities young people would like to see.
Local councillors pledged funds for the project, which were matched by Connexions, enabling work to start on improving the facilities.
Crewe Athletic football team, sponsored by Wulvern with support from Connexions, agreed to re-paint the café area and new laminate flooring will be laid.
Lynn said: “We have been overwhelmed by the support shown by partners, local councillors and some local businesses for this much-needed provision for young people on a Friday night.”
The opening will take place on Friday November 13 at 6.30pm.
