CAMERA crews could soon be in Middlewich as part of a new TV show exploring the restoration of historical buildings.
Independent production company Endemol is working with the BBC on the property series and wants the town to feature in one of the episodes.
Researcher Katharine Phillips said: “The programme aims to highlight the plight of spectacular historical properties.
“We would like to find one of Middlewich’s heroes who is saving one part of our architectural history, and making it into a wonderful 21st century home.
“As Middlewich architecture dates right back to the 12th century, with the St Michael and All Angels church, we felt that there could be some very interesting buildings within the town.
“We are looking to tell the history of the regions through their buildings, and felt that with Middlewich’s rich history, with everything from salt mining to canals, as well as Middlewich’s active role in the First World War, there could be many interesting stories to uncover.”
The programme hopes to follow Middlewich homeowners throughout the whole restoration process.
It will bring to light the difficult decisions about what should to be saved and what can be sacrificed to make way for a 21st century home.
Producers also say that the show will be presented by a well known TV personality but remain tight lipped about who they have got lined up.
There is plenty of potential for renovation projects in Middlewich, for example, the derelict cottage in Croxton Lane.
Elsewhere, Middlewich councillors are working with developers to transform a derelict warehouse and cottage into a canalside cafe, visitor centre and council premises with a heritage display and boating facilities at the Town Wharf.
Katharine added: “We aim to tell the story of a region and its people through the property, and think that Middlewich’s history is an essential part of our heritage.
“At the end of it all we would hope to see one of Middlewich’s historic buildings being saved from ruin.”
