Sometimes things just come to me

The Beatles have appeared in Northwich but as far as I know, not in Chester, so in my opinion we carry historical rank over Chester. The only band that ever appeared in Chester was the Romans and to my knowledge they never had a No1 record.

Northwich has two rivers and how many towns can boast that? I remember a wrestler called Billy Two Rivers who later became the chief of the Mohawk nation, but what that has to do with this I have no idea. Sometimes things just come to me.

The powers-that-be had a vision and a plan for our town that would have put us on the map. I do believe the Beatles also had visions but don’t think for one moment they had a plan for Northwich unless Lucy really did fly over our sky with diamonds.

We are on the map, but we would have got a bigger bit of it if you get my drift had the great plan been implemented. There have been vast amounts invested in discussions, planning meetings, coffee mornings, tea dances and other tete-a-tetes to get the vision up and running.

Of course, those involved in all the negotiations weren’t using their own money.

It is the hard workers within our community and Council Tax payers, who had to meet the bills of a plan that wasn’t really a plan at all.

This means failure is an option and what does it matter when you have nothing personal to lose.

Why should we be surprised? Let’s be honest, those that work in government and councils are just a few clowns short of a circus.

People who fail usually succeed in blaming everything under the sun. Recession, contractors, the rest of us, leaves on the line, the price of fish, the weather, nights drawing in but most of all rising costs.

If I read a recent council document correctly, our rise in Council Tax is three per cent when we had a vision. Ellesmere Port and Neston will only pay 0.8 per cent extra. Chester will see a rise of around 0.9 per cent.

Isn’t it funny that those with no vision pay less. What do they say about the blind leading the blind? They have no great plans and coincidentally neither have we. This is the Muppet show at its best.

It is incredible how our bills continue the climb up the hill when services are going down hill. I’m saying nothing about dustbins today but I will mention gold plated pension schemes which no body else enjoys like those who work in the public sector do and by the way how come some earn more than the Prime Minister, allegedly? We have got nothing for our money.

Imagine going in to Tesco and saying I am going through the checkout with nothing in my basket but charge me anyway.

If I couldn’t come up with an exciting plan where large companies would bear all the costs and the town would benefit I would show my **** in Burton’s window as my old man used to say.

I invite the council to offer me the job of ‘Visionary for Northwich.’ I would work free of charge.

I would ensure that the businesses have the best environment in which to flourish, the river banks are used for recreation and to bring in business to the area, there are public toilets to be proud of, there is somewhere for people to dance, events will be staged, and shows will be shown.

The Northwich Guardian would be on sale on every street corner. I would reintroduce the stocks which will be used to punish offenders against our own people but where we could also show our decision makers what we think of them.

I would do all this for nothing and trust that those who gained from the contracts might slip me a few bob for considering them.

I am open to a little ‘sweetener’ but I know that those in power would never dream of such a thing.
